Volunteer Guidelines


1. Scope of Service

  • Beautification Efforts (9:00 AM – 7:00 PM): Community Service
    Trash/debris removal, graffiti cover ups, sticker removal and touch up paint.
  •  Neighborhood Watch (9:00 PM – 7:00 AM): Volunteer Patrol
    Conduct observational patrols to enhance community visibility and safety awareness.

    • Role: “See Something, Say Something” – Promptly report suspicious activity or hazards to supervisors or 911. No direct intervention; CSWs act as observers only.
    • Goal: Facilitate faster police response by documenting incidents (time, location, description) via supervisor-provided forms.

2. Liability and Consent

  • CSWs sign a Release of Liability Form acknowledging risks (e.g., uneven terrain, weather).

3. Assignment and Reporting

  • Schedule:  Maximum 8 hours/day; minimum 4 hours/shift.
  • Check-In: Directly report to the shift supervisor for task assignments and public safety briefings.

4. Conduct Expectations

Landcare Enhancement:

  • The following items are approved to pick up:
    • Yard debris,
    • Furniture,
    • Appliances,
    • Tree limbs (up to 6″ in diameter and no longer than 10 ft.),
    • Bags of leaves and miscellaneous items can be picked up
  • The following items cannot be picked up:
    • Tree trunks,
    • Any type of batteries,
    • Roofing shingles,
    • Bricks,
    • Dirt,
    • Concrete,
    • Oil of any kind,
    • Heavy metal, and/or
    • Hazardous items.

 

  • Public Safety
    • Observation Only: Do not engage with suspects, pursue individuals, or confront behavior.
    • Reporting: Use supervisor-provided daily activity reports/ incident forms or call 911 for emergencies.
    • SAFE CSW uniform and flashlights are mandatory for evening patrols.
    • Stay in designated patrol zones; no solo assignments.

5. Dress Code

  • Uniforms are required and issued by S.A.F.E. for visibility purposes.

6. Breaks

  • Morning and evening shifts:
    • Two 15-minute break.
    • 1 hour lunch break.
    • No smoking in public while in uniform.
    • No breaks during first/last hour of shift.

7. Documentation

  • Participants will log patrol observations and beautification progress via Daily Activity Report.
  • Completion Letter: Issued within 24 hours of final shift, certifying compliance with county guidelines.

8. Uniforms

  • Required for volunteers and community service workers.
    • All black shoes or boots.
    • All black pants or BDU’s, worn with a belt at the hips.
    • SAFE issued shirt, tucked in at the waist.
